Gingivectomy

If left untreated, gum disease can lead to periodontal pockets that loosen the gum tissue around the teeth.

When nonsurgical dental treatments are not enough, a gingivectomy can eliminate pockets and allow the gums to reattach to the teeth.

Dr. Gregory E. Anderson performs this gum surgery at our Logan and Garland, UT, locations to restore patients' smiles.

What Is a Gingivectomy?

A gingivectomy is the surgical removal of diseased gum tissue. This dentistry treatment addresses periodontal disease to restore your oral health and prevent further issues from developing. Our Logan oral surgeon often performs a gingivectomy when other gum disease treatments are unsuccessful or if gum disease is advanced.

I felt exceedingly well cared for by Dr. Anderson and his staff. Though this immediate post-op period isn't fun, I am confident that all will be "blue skies and green lights" again soon.

Financing Your Gingivectomy

There are many options for financing your gum surgery at our office in Logan, UT. Below, we will explore everything you need to know.

Gingivectomy Cost

The cost of gingivectomy can vary depending on a variety of factors, including how many teeth need to be treated. However, the average cost of this procedure at our practice is around $1,500.

Insurance and Gingivectomy

Most dental insurance plans partially cover the cost of this surgery. Our financial experts are happy to file claims and check benefits on your behalf. We can give you a cost estimate at your consultation.

Flexible Financing Options

In addition to accepting most dental insurance plans, we also offer in-house financing and third party financing through CareCredit®. Our office also accepts Medicaid for those who qualify.

No Fee for Monthly Payments

For your convenience, patients can also choose to pay off their surgery in monthly installments. There is no service charge or finance fee when you take advantage of this offer.

What You Can Expect During Treatment

Are you considering gingivectomy to improve your oral health? Here is what to expect the day of your treatment.

Anesthesia

First, the affected gums and tooth or teeth will be numbed with a local anesthetic. We also offer IV sedation at our dental practices in Logan and Garland, UT, to help you relax during your procedure.

Tissue Removal

Once the teeth and gums are numbed, Dr. Anderson will remove the damaged tissue, leaving the healthy tissue intact. This can be done using either a specialized dental laser or a scalpel, depending on your needs.

Scaling and Root Planing

Next, he will perform scaling and root planing to remove plaque and tartar deposits from deep beneath the gums. This treatment will also help loose gums reattach to the teeth.

Sutures

Once all diseased tissue has been removed and the teeth have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, Dr. Anderson will reposition the tissue and secure it in place with sutures if a scalpel is used. If a laser is used, sutures are often not needed.

Periodontal Dressing

In some cases, the surgical site may be covered with a periodontal dressing. This will help protect the area until it falls off in approximately seven to 10 days.
Because periodontal disease affects the tissues and bone around the teeth, Dr. Anderson may need to remove small amounts of bone during the procedure as well. We will let you know if this is necessary during your office visit.
